Guardianship Among Believers

"In the Qur’an, there is a system of guardianship among believers and believers are charged with distributing their wealth. Let us say that you have seen a poor old man on the street, you are to welcome him as a guest in a room of your house. You have to provide clothing for him just as good as what you wear. You have to offer him the same food that you eat. That is because God commands us to give away whatever is surplus to our needs.
